Tony Sparrow, Pastor

Greetings! I am thankful for the opportunity to be the Lead Pastor at Old Hickory Church of the Nazarene. I am blessed with an amazing family. My wife Lindsey, my son Wesley, and my daughter Kate are gifts from God. We aren't anywhere close to being a perfect family, but God's grace is at work in us. Lindsey and I desire to be the spouse that God has called us to be to one another, and we both desire to be parents who point our kids to Christ. Did I mention that we need your prayers?

I was called to ministry at 17, which brought me to Trevecca Nazarene University in 1996. During my time at TNU, I received the call to preach. This call happened just before leaving for a mission trip. That night, I sensed the Holy Spirit speaking to my heart saying this, "Tony, you have the greatest news in the world to tell people, and I want you to spend the rest of your life preaching that good news." This call has been fulfilled in youth ministry for six years, college/young adult ministry for four years, and as a pastor of evangelism and discipleship for a year. This call has brought me to Old Hickory, and I am looking forward to seeing what God has in store for our church and community.

My favorite hobbies include basketball, disc golf, and watching most sports. I am also currently working on my Doctor of Ministry degree from Asbury Theological Seminary.

One of my favorite scriptures is Romans 8:1-2, "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death."

Jade Kravat, Worship Leader

Hi there! I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve as Worship Pastor at OHNaz!

I grew up in Kankakee, Illinois, where I accepted Christ at a very young age. I was a part of various worship teams through high school, and felt called to pursue worship leading. Not knowing what that would look like, I found out about Trevecca Nazarene University, where I studied Worship Arts and graduated with a B.A. in May of 2017. I am passionate about leading worship in a way that allows the same message to be preached throughout the entire service. I love being part of the community that is found at Old Hickory Church of the Nazarene.

In my free time, I’m probably drinking coffee or wandering aimlessly around Target, buying more candles and mugs than one should have.

A passage of Scripture that sticks with me is Romans 15:5-6 - “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Debbie Woodard, Pastor of Congregational Care

Blessings to you all! I am so thankful to be a part of such a loving, caring church and to have the opportunity to serve in the capacity of Pastor of Congregational Care. Currently, I have the pleasure of working with our children during Children’s Church as well as leading small groups and discipleship groups.

I have been a member of this church for over 20 years and served as a teacher, facilitator, and church leadership team member. I received my BA in Management from Trevecca Nazarene University. I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior as a young child and answered the call to ministry in recent years. I just want to love all God’s people like He loves us.

I am widowed after 39 years of marriage. I enjoy my friends and family, especially my four precious granddaughters. I love to travel and visit new places and meet new people.

My favorite verse is Romans 8:28, “We know that God works all things together for good for the ones who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.” My saying, “It’s all good!” is a result of this verse.

Richard Baisden, Pastor of Senior Adult Ministries

A current contemporary Christian song has these lyrics:

If grace is a kingdom
I've stopped at the gate
Thinking I don't deserve to pass through
after all of the mistakes I've made
But I heard a whisper
As Heaven bent down
Said, “Child, don't you know that the first will be last
and the last get a crown?”
Now I'm just a beggar in the presence of a King
I wish I could bring You so much more
But if it's true You use broken things
Then here I am Lord, I am all Yours!
Jason Houser, AJ Pruis, and Matthew West

After graduating from Marshall University with a degree in Education, I felt God calling me into ministry. I have served as a Christian education director, music minister, youth minister, pastor, and now as a senior adult minister. I have, like many people, made mistakes, some that broke me and caused me to doubt I could be used in His kingdom. But through the mentoring of a couple of recent pastors (Pastor Tony being one of them) and God’s amazing grace in Susan Badley’s small group, God began dealing with me once again. The dry desert wasteland has become filled with new life and growth!

I am currently working full-time as a Human Resources Program Manager with the State of Tennessee. I enjoy spending time with my whole family but especially my GRANDkids!

The Word of God is not just a novel. It IS God helping us live rightly. It is His promise. He certainly lives up to His name: “He shall be called Immanuel, which means ‘God WITH us,’” with us in the midst of every joy, every broken heart and body, every failure. His Presence IS WITH us to correct, guide, and restore us by mercy and grace.

Nick Polk, Youth Pastor

Nick, originally from Venice, FL, grew up in the Church of the Nazarene and received the call to full time ministry when he was 11 years old. His calling lead him to Trevecca Nazarene University, where he met the love of his life, Kelly and acquired his BA in Compassionate Ministries. He works as a Social Worker at Trevecca Towers on TNU's campus alongside serving the youth at Old Hickory. Some of his favorite undertakings include coffee, punk music, and reading anything authored by or about J.R.R. Tolkien.

Kelly and Nick spend their free time watching Netflix, going on picnics in the park, and reading while drinking coffee with one another. They also desire for God to do his work in their marriage and to always participate in the story of God's kingdom.

A verse that encourages and keeps Nick accountable is Philippians 2:1-4 "Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others."
