Located at 605 Jones Street, Old Hickory Church of the Nazarene has been a part of the life of Old Hickory Village since 1938. Beginning with just a dirt floor basement, Old Hickory Nazarene has added to its facilities many times over the years. In addition to the sanctuary and classrooms, the campus now consists of a Family Life Center which houses the church offices and the gym, a parsonage, and an educational wing which was dedicated in June of 2002.

CONNECT with other people. Meeting in smaller groups helps develop friendships... CONNECT with your church. The many opportunities for ministry helps you to become more involved... CONNECT with your faith. Small groups provide a time to dig a little deeper. You are in a setting where you can question and discuss and learn together.

Sunday morning groups meet at the church. Other groups meet at varied locations. For information on joining a small group, contact Debbie Woodard at 615-739-7367.

October is a busy month with school, Fall break, and other extracurricular activities. Don't forget to make time for God! This month our focus is deciding to be OK with what we have. More or Less, it is up to us. I don't know about you, but it seems the more I have the more I think I need and the more work and worry I have. I believe that Less is definitely More!

Our verse for October is "Then he said to them, 'Watch out! Be on your guard against wanting to have more and more things. Life is not made up of how much a person has.'" Luke 12:15 NIrV

Also, don't forget to join us for the Village Fair on October 6th and Trunk or Treat of October 31. We will be partnering with FBC in the Village for these events. Also, sign up to support our own Charlotte Staley in the Buddy Walk at the Hermitage on 10/27.

Local Service Opportunities

Christian Community Outreach -- Help feed our neighbors experiencing hunger and volunteer at the Christian Community Outreach Center's Food Pantry. Open shifts are Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays from 10am-1pm, and the schedule is flexible. If you only have an hour to spare, there's an hour open for you! For more information, contact Program Director Kay Hereford Voorhees at 615-847-4496. Together, we are neighbors helping neighbors.

The Community Outreach Center is running short on several items and any donation will be appreciated: tuna, Vienna sausages, Spam, canned chicken, spaghetti sauce (canned not jars), and spaghetti pasta, Tuna or Hamburger Helper, scalloped potatoes, oatmeal, Jello, soups (cream of chicken and cream of mushroom especially, but other kinds welcomed as well), elbow macaroni, and canned fruit. There will be a donation bin in the main church foyer by the missions table. See Vickie Blackburn with any questions you may have.

Games with the Towers -- All are invited to Old Hickory Towers for board games every second Saturday of the month from 10:00am-12:00pm! This is a fantastic way to get involved in our surrounding community.

Pencil Partners -- Our PENCIL Partnership is with Dupont-Hadley Middle School, helping with after-school tutoring, reading to students, exam proctors, seasonal events, end of year celebrations, etc. We also collect donations for Angel Tree, school supplies, and more. Please see Vickie Blackburn for more information on getting involved.

Box Tops for Education -- We collect Box Tops for Dupont Elementary. You are invited to drop them off at the missions table in the foyer.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20
