    Sheepish: Expectation

    September 8, 2021
    Filed Under:
    From the Pastor

Every week I have given you homework to help the message of this psalm infiltrate your life at the deepest level.

Last week I asked you to make a list of those areas in your life in which your cup is running over. How did you do? How many did you come up with? If you really gave it thought, I bet your list was long.

This week I encourage you to do the following.

    1. Finish memorizing all of Psalm 23. It's just one hundred twenty something words, so it's not difficult. If you haven't been doing the memorization, you can easily catch up this week.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Repeat this psalm every day when you wake up, and right before you say good-night.

    2. This week, at the end of each day, write down three "good and merciful" things that followed you. I could set the number at five or I could set it at ten and the list would still be full, but let's start with three.

Each day think of three good and merciful things that came your way. Maybe it was an unexpected blessing. Maybe you experienced victory in an area in which you've been defeated in the past. Maybe you fell down but God helped you get back on your feet before it was too late.

Think of three good and merciful things that happened to you each day.

The book of Isaiah says... He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. (Isaiah 40:11)

I hope that what you've gotten from this series is that our Lord is not a drill sergeant, a tyrant, or a taskmaster. He's a shepherd and you are one of his sheep. If you will put yourself in his care, your life can be blessed beyond words.
